Policies

Volunteer Policy

Our activities are run by volunteers. This policy explains how we recruit, support and value them.

Why volunteers matter

Volunteers run our Quran school, youth circles, events and community days. We value the time and skills they give, and we aim to make volunteering safe, rewarding and well organised.

Recruitment

  • Anyone can apply through our volunteer page
  • We have an informal conversation with every applicant to find a suitable role
  • Volunteers working with children or adults at risk provide two references and complete an enhanced DBS check, in line with our safeguarding policy
  • Volunteers without a DBS check only take on roles that do not involve working directly with children, and are never left alone with a child
  • We recruit fairly, in line with our equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Induction and support

  • Every volunteer receives an induction covering safeguarding, health and safety and our code of conduct
  • Each volunteer has a named contact who supports them
  • We offer training relevant to each role
  • Volunteers can ask for a certificate or reference describing their work with us

What we ask of volunteers

  • Follow our policies, including safeguarding and the code of conduct
  • Let us know in good time if you cannot attend
  • Respect the confidentiality of the people we work with
  • Raise any concern with the director or the safeguarding lead

Expenses

Volunteers are not paid. Agreed out-of-pocket expenses, such as materials bought for an activity, can be repaid with receipts.

Problems

If a volunteer has a concern, they should speak to their named contact or the director. If we have concerns about a volunteer, we will discuss them openly and fairly.

Review

This policy was adopted in October 2026 and will be reviewed every year. Next review: October 2027.
